My new, old favorite kitchen gadget.

I’ve had this apple cutter slicer thingy for a few years. They’re pretty common. I’m sure most of you own one. This one was picked up a couple of years ago at IKEA for a few bucks and has been resting in the back of a drawer, unused ever since…until yesterday.

A few days ago I finally found some honey crisp apples at a local grocer. They’re my favorite and hard to find in this neck of the woods so I snagged some up. They’re crunchy and juicy and oh so sweet.

While digging through a kitchen drawer for something else, I spied the apple cutter thingy, which I had totally forgotten I purchased. I don’t know why I’ve never used it. I like my knives. I’ve tried many other choppers, and cutting gadgets over the years, but other than my food processor, I tend to fall back on my favorite knives. It’s just quicker and easier for me.

Except for this thing. This thing works. Even my inexpensive one from IKEA. It’s amazing.

Now I have no excuse for not eating more apples. Suppose I better head out to hunt down some more honey crisp.

So what’s your favorite type of apple? And do you have a favorite kitchen gadget to tell us all about?

My favorite apple is a Fuji and I really like my apple slicer too. My son usually asks me to use it when he wants apple slices.

  • Jealous you can get honey crisp apples and even more jealous you can go to IKEA! I love the honey crisp. Back where I’m originally from (and outta isolation) you can get honey crisp apples in the orchards and they are HUGE. I also really like Royal Galla apples. YUMMY!

I love honey crisps and am usually disappointed when I drive up to the apple orchard and find that everyone else loves them too and have made sure they arrived at the crack of dawn to pick them up!

I love honey crisps and Fuji apples. Yummy just slicing them and dipping them in peanut butter. Great snack:)

  • I know! It’s so unfair that the early bird always gets the worm – or the apple in this case. :-] ~Amy

Honey Crisp are my current favorite apple… but I also really like Jazz apples. Fuji and Gala are both good too…

I love honeycrisp too! I was so happy they have had them at Sam’s for the past few weeks, I get a 6 pack once or twice a week! I also got a apple slicer, and dont know how I functioned before, they are wonderful, I like yours better than mine though, the pretty red, and the way the handles come up is really nice

I love all apples, I really do! I eat at least one every day! I love my Kitchenaid, Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker-we have the one with the built in freezer, it is a dream. I also love my immersion blender!

I have an ikea near me and am totally going to pick one of those up.

  • I used to think Gala were my favorite, but I got Honeycrisp for the first time this year, found them at Costco, and they are so good! I will never again say how I think apples are boring (I can’t help it, I love all the summer berries so much), because Honeycrisp are incredible!

Also have to point out how unfair it is that you have Ikea. What, is New Mexico the boonies or something?

I love my zester, pastry cutter, and mini chopper.

My favorite apple is Fuji and I also love Honeycrisp. I have one of those handy dandy apple cutters that I’ve never used. You’ve inspired me.

I know this is an old post, but I was looking on foodgawker and found this link. I just purchased an apple slicer from Crate & Barrel. It is very similar to this, however, it is adjustable. That is, you can have the apple sliced in 8 or 16 slices. Very nice and works very well!

    Enjoy your apples!
